Adaptive Training Foundation

In January of 2014, David Vobora, a 5-year veteran of the NFL, met US Army Staff Sergeant Travis Mills, a quadruple amputee. David opened up his personal gym to Travis, offering his training expertise. The pair started working out together, customizing and adapting to the unique challenges posed by Travis’ injuries. Through working with Travis and engaging the veteran community, David developed a passion for helping those with life-altering injuries find life-fulfilling adaptive performance training.

David realized that, while there are many excellent rehabilitation programs as well as adaptive/Paralympic sports organizations, none existed to bridge the gap from basic functional rehabilitation to adapted sport. Adaptive Training Foundation (ATF) was conceived to fill this void.

He continued helping adaptive athletes create sustainable lifestyle changes over the next six months, and by September of 2014, Adaptive Training Foundation had received its 501(c)3 status to allow outside support for these ambitious athletes. To this day, ATF is committed to keeping its services to adaptive athletes 100% free of charge, and relies on the generosity of people like yourself to not only restore lives, but empower them through movement.

Combined Arms is a dynamic, ever-evolving collaborative impact organization that is using an innovative approach to technology and service delivery to disrupt the veteran transition experience. By providing comprehensive support to military members and their families as they transition to civilian life, we are accelerating veteran transition in order to deliver maximum impact on Houston. Combined Arms streamlines the connection between veterans and their families from all branches of the military with organizations that serve them. We’ve created a new veteran service model, focusing on collective impact—reinventing what it means to serve veterans by creating pathways for them to access resources based on exactly what they’ve asked for, leaving the outdated model of “services in silos” behind. Combined Arms is creating a well-rounded community of Houstonians who are United After The Uniform.

The Other 23

We are a Veteran focused non-profit. That’s likely over-simplified, but it’s cleaner than the long list of ways we love to be involved in our community.

We host truly unique combined surfing and wake surfing camps. Each of the multi-day all-inclusive events are fueled by a community of amazing volunteers that introduce current members of the military and veterans, some with with disabilities, visible and non- visible, to the surfing community and the health benefits that come from surfing.

We sincerely believe that we are instrumental in helping to break the negative cycle that often surrounds our veteran community by providing a community built on camaraderie, motivation, and memorable opportunities to enjoy active therapeutic hobbies.

We are growing and expanding our capabilities as our partnerships grow. We can't wait to tell you what's coming up next!

If you are current military or a veteran interested in riding in one of our camps, looking to get involved with an Adaptive Surfing competition, or have a general question, please use the “Contact Us” button in the top right corner of this page.
