Emergency Readiness

Systemic Change Through Community Leverage.

Individual adaptations are vital, but systemic change is permanent. When a building code is updated or a city ordinance is passed, it ensures accessibility for everyone, not just those who know how to ask for it. This page is our intake for the Advocacy Pipeline, where lived experience becomes the evidence we take to city halls, state capitals, and corporate boardrooms.

The Evidence for Advocacy

To change the rules, we must prove they aren't working. We use community data to bridge the "Policy Gap", the distance between what the law says and what the community actually experiences.

Policy Literacy: The Levels of Change

Advocacy is most effective when it is targeted. We categorize your suggestions to ensure they reach the correct table:

  • Local (City/County): This covers zoning laws, sidewalk maintenance, and city-funded programs. If it's about your immediate neighborhood or Houston’s city council, it starts here.

  • State: This is where building codes, professional licensing, and insurance regulations are managed. Changes here impact millions across the state.

  • Federal: This involves the ADA, Section 504, and national civil rights. Federal policy sets the "floor" that every state must follow.

  • Corporate: This involves "internal laws"—the workplace standards and HR rules that govern how companies treat employees and customers.
